Use of IP address
A networked device gets its identity by IP address. Like real life examples home and office has a particular address or physical location, based on which people communicate by physical appearance or through letters. Similarly every networked device consists of IP address, based on which data packets are sent and received.
Suppose I need to send a packet to my friend, then it goes without saying that I must know the exact destination i.e. address of the receiver. I must put the complete address over the packet, and then only it will reach to the original person.
Similarly while sending data packets from one device to another, it is mandatory to have IP address. Like looking for name and address in telephone directory, our computer looks for hostname through DNS servers in order to find the IP address. Based on host name, IP is figured out and then data packet is sent to the IP it was sent for.
There are different types of IP address like private IP addresses, public IP addresses, static IP addresses, and dynamic IP addresses. These IPs are distributed based on priorities.
